What is Safe Custody? Back

The Safe Custody feature allows you to protect mobile connection from deactivation due to  non-usage. This service is only applicable for a postpaid customer on the request of the customer and on payment of a specified amount.

Charges for Safe Custody

  • For Safe Custody - 3 months, Rs. 100 will be charged
  • For Safe Custody - 3 to 6 months, Rs. 300 will be charged
  • For Safe Custody - 6 to 12 months, Rs. 600 will be charged
What is the SMS Directive? Back

SMS Directive

For Postpaid:“Any SMS usage beyond 3000 SMS per month will be charged at standard rates”.  As per TRAI regulations, any SMS usage beyond 3000 SMS (within bundle or otherwise) per Bill Cycle per SIM will be charged at 1.00/1.50.

For Prepaid: TRAI Regulation states that only up to 100 SMS per number per day can be charged at concessional rates, (if the customer has an SMS discounting offer). Beyond which, the customer is to be charged a minimum of 50p per SMS (this rate may be higher depending on the base rate of the customer). Although there is no Capping/Limit on the number of SMS an individual can send, the number of free SMS or SMS at tariff less than 50ps per SMS shall not exceed 100 SMS per SIM per day.

This Regulation is applicable for all Prepaid/Postpaid Customers for of all operators in all circles across India.

All SMSs sent while on Roaming (National or International) will be part of this regulation. The 100 SMS Cap covers all SMSs : Local/STD/ISD/Premium and Toll Free SMS (Short Codes) also. For eg. All SMSs sent to 56789 will all be part of this regulation.

What is my Credit limit? Back

Credit Limit is the maximum amount limit offered to customer for monthly usage.

Your dynamic credit limit depends on the security deposit you’ve paid, your average monthly usage, payment track record and how long you’ve been with us. Vodafone may at its discretion, allow usage (including Voice, SMS, VAS and Data) beyond the dynamic credit limit (DCL) on a month to month basis without changing the DCL assigned to you. Hence, the DCL may not restrict your usage. Due to unavoidable reason / reasons beyond our control (system related) the intimation regarding utilisation of DCL may be delayed / deferred.

To increase your dynamic credit limit, you have to make an additional payment towards your security deposit. You can also increase / decrease your dynamic credit limit by sending SMS IL / DL < desired credit limit > to 111 (toll free)

How do I understand my bill? (Bill Explanation) Back

Bill
A bill is a request to the user of a product or service to pay for the products or services delivered by the provider. It contains the details of the products and services availed by the user.

Billing Cycle
Billing cycle is the time period for which the bill is generated (30 days). It lists the charges for the phone from a particular date to a stipulated date.
Current Billing Cycles are 5,10,14,19, 23 & 27. Closed Billing cycles 2.

Due Date
It is the last day of the billing cycle.
E.g. If the billing cycle is from 04 to 03 of every month, the Due date would be 22nd of every month (i. e. 18th day from bill cycle Date for cheque / cash payments. For DDI/DDB due date remains the same except that payment will be debited on the 15th Day)

Bill Date
The date on which the customer’s bill is being calculated and compiled.
Example : - If bill period is from 4th Sep to 3rd Oct bill will be generated on 4th Oct.

Bill Period
It is one complete month for which the customer has been billed. 30 days
E.g. If the billing cycle is from 25th, the bill period would be from 25th to next month 24th.

Bill Number
This number appears on the top right corner of the bill.

Relationship Number
This is a unique number assigned to the customer.Reflects on the top left hand side of the customer's bill.It may vary in length from 9 digits in Individual accounts to 16 digits in Corporate accounts.

Previous Balance
This is the amount which is payable by the customer from his previous bill.
E.g. A customer gets a bill for Rs. 1,000 in March. He pays Rs. 700. Now, when the next bill is generated in April, it would also display the last bill amount of Rs 1,000 as the amount which is payable by the customer from his previous bill.

Payment Received
This is the payment received from the customer for the last outstanding bill or any interim payment made in the previous bill period.
E.g. A customer gets a bill for Rs. 1,000. He pays Rs. 700. The next bill will show that a payment of Rs. 700 has been received from the customer.

Current Charges
This includes all the charges levied on the customer’s bill in the current period.
Current Charges = Airtime + Toll charges + Rental Charges+ Roaming charges + Other Debits/ Credits-Discounts-Miscellaneous credits & charges+ service tax.

Amount Due
Net amount is the value which a customer needs to pay in lieu of services used on Vodafone network. Amount Due (Net Amount) = (Previous Dues –Payment Received) + Current Charges.

LPC – Late Payment Charges

  • If the Amount Due is less than 300 then LPC will be 0
  • If the Amount Due is greater than 300 and less than 500 then LPC will be 50
  • If the Amount Due is greater than 500 then LPC will be 100
  • In the Bill it will be shown in the column of “Amount Due After Due Date”

Credit Limit
The credit limit is a factor of the customer's paid up security, average monthly usage, payment track record and number of months in the network.

One Time Charges
One time Membership Fees, Advance Rental Plan charges, Fax & Data charges & Fax charges.

Monthly Charges
It includes all the rental charges levied to the customer in his current bill. It contains :-
Basic Plan Rental, CLIP, Roaming Rental, Additional Package charges, VAS Rentals

Usage Charges
These are the charges levied on the customer for the usage of the phone.
Usage Charges = Airtime = Local / STD / ISD / Roaming.

Messaging Charges
Messaging charges are the charges levied to the customer for sending messages.

Discounts/Other charges
Volume discount is any discount on the outgoing airtime charges of the customer.These discounts are given as a part of the schemes, which are launched time to time.
Volume Discount can’t be carried forward to the next month. It gets forfeited, if it remains unutilized.

Misc Credits/Charges
Includes any other credit or debit charges applicable to the customer.
E.g.: Late Fee, SIM replacement charges (99Rs/-), Credit on Invoice (free services that we give to the customer for retaining him), cheque bounce charges.
Late fee is levied on the customer’s account when the Net amount due is unpaid, if the customer has not paid the bill within the due date.
-Above 300 Rs and below 500 Rs = Rs 50 (Late Fees) Above 500 Rs = Rs 100 ( Late Fees ).

Tax
Service tax is levied on the total bill of the customer.12.36% is the service tax which is levied.

If your usage is more than 1GB it is always wise to take a 2GB plan. You would save by doing so. If your usage is below 1GB, then you should opt for a 1GB pack.

We send you an SMS at 80% and at 100% of your usage to ensure that you are aware of your consumption.

Anyway you have multiple ways to check your internet usage:

What do I do if I have finished my regular pack and I still want to enjoy browsing without getting charged as per PayGo rates? Back

If you are on any Regular Pack and you finished your quota you can opt for an Add on, an additional pack that allows you to enjoy speed and also not get charged as per Pay Go Rates till the usage defined for that particular Add on pack.
Only one type of Add on pack can be activated in a particular bill cycle. It will automatically get deactivated once the bill cycle is over.

What do I do if I have finished my unlimited pack, my speed has reduced and I want the speed once again? Back
  • If you are on Unlimited pack or a Bill Shield pack and you finished your quota you can opt for a Booster that gives you extra data and allows you to get back to your speed.
  • Remember that If you are on Unlimited pack, you can opt for a Booster only when your speed has been reduced. If you are on a Bill Shield pack, you can opt for a Booster only once your Bill Shield amount is reached.
What is 3G? Back

3G stands for third generation wireless. It is based on an International Telecommunication Union (ITU) initiative for a single global wireless standard called International Mobile Telecommunications-2000 (IMT-2000). It enhances the service experience such as multimedia, high speed mobile broadband, internet access with the ability to view video footage on your mobile handset. With a 3G phone and access to the Vodafone 3G network you can make video calls, watch live TV, access the high speed internet, receive emails and download music tracks, as well as the usual voice call and messaging services found on a mobile phone, like person to person video, live streaming, downloadable video of entertainment, news, current affairs and sport content and video messaging.

Do I need a separate handset to use 3G services? Back

Yes, in order to use 3G services you need to have a handset which is compatible with 3G network, in case you handset is already 3G compatible then you don’t need to purchase a new phone. Different 3G handsets have different speed capabilities, we recommend that you use an HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) enabled handset for the best experience.

Do I need to configure any special settings on my phone to use 3G? Back

Select 3G mode or Dual mode (Depends on device) to use 3G services on your phone. No other changes to be made in settings for using 3G services.

What do I need to start using 3G? Back

You only need to have 3G mobile phone compatible with 3G network and to activate a 3G Data Pack.

My Smartphone keeps asking me to update the Apps & Softwares every now & then. How does this affect my Mobile Internet Usage? Back

To be updated, any software or app update would use your Mobile Internet. If you have a Mobile Internet plan/ pack, the usage would be consumed from there. Otherwise it gets billed to you at 4p/10KB. Do remember that most Smartphones have an option of “Update Apps on Wi-Fi”. You may choose this option to reduce your Internet usage by Apps.

What should I do if I have a dual SIM phone to get the best mobile internet experience? Back

In case you are using a dual SIM phone, insert your Vodafone SIM card into the slot marked SIM Card 1. Then go to "Settings" and select "SIM 1" for data services.

What are the data roaming charges on National Roaming? Back

If you are latched on to the Vodafone network on 2G/3G, you will be charged at home circle rates. If you are latched on to the Non Vodafone network, you will be charged 10p/10KB and Data Pack benefits will not be applicable.

What are the data roaming charges on International Roaming? Back

On International Roaming, data charges are country specific. To know the rates send an sms as ROAM <space> country name to 111(toll free in home network).

National roaming is pre-activated on your mobile. You need to subscribe for International roaming.

What data usage rate will I be charged? Back

Standard data usage rate of Rs.5.50 per 10KB will be charged while roaming internationally. Free usage given in your local data plan is not applicable while roaming internationally.

What are the charges for using GPRS internationally? Back

You will be charged Rs 5.50/10KB. Some operators may charge for PDP sessions as well.

What is a PDP session? Back

PDP is Packet Data protocol. When you want to use GPRS, your mobile will first attach to a GPRS enabled network in the country you are roaming and then your mobile will automatically activate a “PDP context”. PDP context is essential for the visited network to authenticate you as a valid GPRS user. Some operators may charge for PDP context. We recommend that you switch off GPRS after you have finished to avoid any additional charges.

Why am I billed for roaming even when I have not visited any roaming location in the last billing period? Back

Roaming usages are billed as per data received from the destination Roaming Operator.
In case of delay in receiving of such data files, usages made in a particular bill period may reflect in succeeding bill period.

How are the incoming international roaming charges reflected in the bill? OR Why am I billed twice for a single incoming call? Back

Every Roaming incoming call charge is divided into 2 components, viz: Roaming Incoming (billed by Roaming Operator) & Roaming Call Forward (billed by Home Operator) The incoming caller number will be passed on to the customer subject to availability of the same from the other service provider, hence one needs to refer to the numbers mentioned under Roaming Call Forward heading in the bill, in case complete number is not reflecting under roaming incoming.

How are usages on Vodafone Mobile Connect billed? Back

Usage on Vodafone Mobile Connect is billed on successful transfer of data packets. Data transfer depends upon the density of the web pages surfed across during web sessions.

Usage on Vodafone Mobile Connect is billed on successful transfer of data packets.
Possible Reasons for Frequent Data Transfer are as follows:
a) There are certain applications which when downloaded keeps on retrieving data from the server at frequent time interval. Applications such as Weather Update, Stock Update..etc. This minimal data transfer leads to frequent billing of 4p/10KB.
b) In case correct procedure of logging out from surfing session is not followed, connectivity with the server does not get terminated, hence leading to data transfer at frequent time interval. Hence it is advisable to log-out properly before terminating a session.
c) Handset setting such as to disabling auto log-in feature & selection of proper APN to be checked.

Is in built free usage applicable in international roaming? Back

Any in built free data usage will NOT be applicable while on International roaming. Usage is charged as per applicable rates except for special roaming packages (subject to availability).

Will I be billed for Vodafone Live or Vodafone Mobile Connect if I’m using BlackBerry service? Back

Transfer of data depends on the APN selected in handset. Also note that for sites which involve live streaming, viz, YouTube, Viggo, Vu Clip etc, data routing will take place through Vodafone Live APN and not through Blackberry APN, as Blackberry does not support Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP), which is required to access sites involving live streaming**.

How are incoming international roaming charges reflected in the bill / why am I billed twice for a single incoming call? Back

How do I get my PUK number? Back

In case your SIM card is blocked, you will need to enter your PUK code to unblock the SIM Card

Unblock your SIM with your PUK - The PUK code is a number unique to your SIM card.  It is used to prevent unauthorized use of your account, and keep your SIM details safe.  You’ll be asked for your PUK if your PIN code is entered incorrectly 3 times. 

If you don’t have your PUK code, you can get it by dialling 111.

  • Enter the PUK into your phone when asked.

  • You’ll be asked to enter a PIN code, twice.
