Is this service available for all the customers?
Yes, this service is available for all customers – both Postpaid and Prepaid.
Will I receive the alerts at all times?
To receive the alerts your mobile phone needs to be switched ON and the network
should not be busy.
If your mobile phone is switched off or the network is busy, you will miss the alert
as USSD works on a ‘fire and forget’ principle compared to sms that works on a ‘store
and forward’ principle.
Does this service affect my phone book or sms inbox capacity?
No, the service in no way affects your sms inbox capacity.
How will I know when I’ve received the alerts?
The handset will make a small beep sound or the backlight of the handset screen
will light up.
Will I receive the alerts when I’m roaming?
Yes, the service works even when you are roaming.
Can I save these alerts on my Vodafone mobile phone?
No, these alerts cannot be saved on to your handset or SIM card.
What does USSD stand for?
USSD stands for Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD). It is a technology
unique to GSM.
It is a capability built into the GSM standard for supporting the transmission of
information over the signalling channels of the GSM network.
USSD provides session-based communication, enabling a variety of applications.
How is it different from Vodafone Flash?
Your mobile does not beep when you receive messages from Vodafone Flash. On the other hand, your mobile will make a small beep or the backlight of the handset screen will light up when you receive Vodafone Alerts. Secondly, you will have to pay for the Vodafone Flash messages that you choose to respond to, whereas Vodafone Alerts is a subscription-based service.
