Bridging gaps for small farmers for them to capitalise on their crop productivity, market pricing and income. To create a one stop solution platform for small and marginal farmers for all their farming needs.

Innovation

Green Agrevolution has developed a web and mobile interface to their ‘DeHaat’ service. Mobile application is mainly used by extension officers (Channel partners) who act as last mile service providers. By using DeHaat application, extension officers implement following activities:

  • Farmers registration ( Data of land-soil type, landholding for future recommendation)
  • Field visit ( Registering farm based queries in picture, audio and text format which directly goes to R&D team)
  • Extension officers aggregate demand for inputs and place order through mobile phone itself which gets delivered within 2 to 3 days.
  • Market linkage
  • Farmers’ feedback
  • Crop reminder calls
  • Web is used by admin where information and products (seeds, fertilizers) are posted.
  • Various queries of farmers are registered and updated on cloud based server, which are subsequently routed to right people or partner for query resolution.

With the use of ICT, they connect small farmers of remote locations to best inputs, information & market. By capturing field level data they also monitor the entire production process and advice every individual farmer at each critical step of production in advance.

Impact

The application was launched in January 2015. Currently there are 5700 farmers, across 6 districts of Bihar and 1 district of Odisha, benefitting from the solution.

To aid rural farmers in increasing crop production and monetary benefits through an end-to-end service including networking and personalised agricultural information.

Innovation

myRML is a free Android and Java based application that delivers highly personalised agricultural information to the farming community that has access to internet on their phones. The application aims to offer the following:

  • Remarkable rise in price realisation for farmers. This results from farmers being made more knowledgeable about district level trader information, local and regional agri news that RML provides.
  • Access to desired products for farmers
  • Reduction in risks through crop advisory, information on weather and detailed farming practices for selected crops.
  • Increased productivity and enhanced farm output
  • Price benefits
  • Information that enables agricultural planning and methodology

The application also provides farmers in the same district or growing the same kind of crops to chat within the application and share their knowledge with each other.
myRML also offers a state of the art multilingual call centre that operates in nine languages.

Impact

The application was launched in the second half of 2014 and is currently being utilised by 1.4 million farmers across the sates of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal.

Challenge

Overcome the difficulties of rural farmers with a cornerstone solution to engage with rural farmers on a day-to-day basis to help them achieve a high quality yield, thereby increasing income. Important content can be locally stored and thus used even with a spotty connection which is rather common in rural areas.

Innovation

BioAvert I is an Android and iOS based application that enables farmers to implement better farming practices, provides knowledge on pesticide application methods, crop rotation etc. In addition, farmers share their queries, participate in polls and take part in surveys that provide data keys for research thereby implementing a two way communication channel.
Phase II of the project is being implemented with multi-lingual options and will be an android based software. Phase III will provide onsite analysis, preventive diagnosis and analysis based advice.
This project also has a huge environmental impact.

Launched in October 2014, the application has benefitted 1000 farmers in the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Challenge

To bridge the gap in education at the rural level. thereby creating learning opportunities for children between the age groups of 3-6 years and enabling power of choice among them.

Innovation

The application is guided by the principle of “Make Your Child a Self-Learner” with programs working to help the very young develop skills and knowledge that they need to encounter the challenges of tomorrow. The various modules of the application are used to:

  • Identify space in a village to set up out learning centers
  • Help in recruiting teachers
  • Enroll children in centers. Help in keeping track of children and understand their socio-economic background
  • Track student attendance and most importantly the monthly assessments giving insights into the learning levels of children
  • Constantly give feedback about the classroom, teaching and learning of children. This is used by field managers to help in standardization and improve efficiency.
  • Manage training of teachers that helps in creating training batches, gathering attendance and feedback of training.
Impact

Launched in May 2015, the application has benefitted over 11000 students in addition to teachers, parents and employees living in 214 villages across the state of Karnataka.

Challenge

Reaching out to the non-Marathi speaking children of the Madia tribe, to learn Marathi (the medium of education in Maharashtra), in order to equip them with the basics of the language when they start school.

Innovation

Akshar is an e-learning Android based application that provides elementary education in the mother-tongue of the Madia tribal people. The application engages local tribal teachers so that children can relate to pronunciations well. It is installed on a generic 7-inch Android tablet and consists of four components: Learning-Alphabet learning, Story reading, Story listening and Testing. The tablet is connected with a speaker set so that the audio sections are clearly audible to the children. A solar panel connection kit also accompanies the set.

Impact

Launched in September 2014, the application has potentially benefitted 8000 children across 120 villages in the state of Maharashtra.

The EduSports school sports platform includes physical education and sports curriculum for Grades KG to 12th, age-appropriate props/equipment, skills and fitness assessments, certified physical education resources, parent and teacher workshops and program evaluation and monitoring. The program integrates into the school time-table and is continuously monitored through a robust 24*7 live IT based reporting platform from the Head office to ensure transparency and accountability in the system. The EduSports Monitoring Platform helps to:

Initiative to establish a sustainable healthcare model to increase effectiveness of maternal and child healthcare in rural communities through monitoring of individuals, provision of accurate and timely information and consultations.

Innovation

iKure has developed android based software called Wireless Health Incident Monitoring System WHIMS which leverages mobile technology to provide holistic mother and child healthcare to individuals from marginalized communities. The software accomplishes the following:

  • Real time monitoring of health and nutrition of mothers, pregnant women and children aged 12-24 months.
  • Enabling collection of baseline data, providing accurate and timely information to high risk pregnant women
  • Systematic screening, monitoring and counseling of pregnant women and infants
  • Child birth and nutrition consultation based in specific local conditions, dietary practices and prevalent deficiencies.

Through WHIMS, health workers can send information to doctors to aid a diagnosis, treatment plan and the sending across of detailed prescriptions. Through the SMS component of WHIMS, community health workers can mediate a question answer facility by connecting with doctors remotely.

Impact

The application was launched in May, 2015 and has 1,350,000 beneficiaries from the Paschim Medinipur district of West Bengal.

Innovation

Top Doctors Online (TDO) is a digital platform that connects the masses with healthcare experts to avail of end-to-end health services through a mobile application powered by the Internet. It offers the following features:

  • Accurate, simple-to-understand, relevant health information
  • Real time access to General Practitioners who are able to solve queries at the click of a button
  • Access to specialists and top doctors for online second opinions and appointment bookings

TDO acts as a mediator between health professionals and the masses who do not have to leave the comfort of their homes to seek medical advice. This proves especially economical and advantageous to individuals residing in small towns or villages who have limited access to quality healthcare.

Impact

Since 2012, Medisurge Technologies has served 5 mn beneficiaries on its mHealth property. The TDO Application for Andriod smartphone users was launched in August 2015 and has crossed 21,000 App downloads in first 100 days of the launch. In first 100 days of the TDO App, there have been nearly more than 33,000 sessions; close to 2,00,000 page views; more than 6,000 doctor-patient interactions and has handled 4 end-to-end healthcare cases across the country.

Lack of affordable, inclusive and quality health care services to the rural and urban poor of the country.
The systems in hospitals are not available in time for the Executives to file claims.

Innovation

Since filing claims is a big challenge in the hospitals due to unavailability of systems to the executives, SAS Poorna Arogya Healthcare has developed a web based application that can be used to file medical claims without a computer, in a seamless manner. It is an innovative model that is self- sustaining in addition to being measurable, scalable and predictable.

Impact

The application was launched in 2010 and has been responsible for outpatient care of 2 lakh members and treatment of 13,000 members in the states of Karnataka and Assam.

To provide end- to- end Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), for the Grameen model implementation of Microfinance, for the optimum use of time, money and other resources by women.

Innovation

Microlekha is a 3G enabled Android application whose basic portion is free of cost and available to any Microfinance Institution. The app can be utilized to perform the day-to-day operations of an MFI. In addition women field workers, who are prime users of the app, save money and time as there is no hassle with photocopies, running around and a quicker turnaround. This application has enabled the women fieldworkers to shoulder an additional 20-25% load. The beneficiaries receive SMS notifications and a complete history of transactions.

Impact

The application was launched in the second half of 2014 and has so far reached over 19,000 beneficiaries across India.

Providing safety to unaccompanied women. To reduce instances in which the safety of women venturing out alone has been compromised.

Innovation

This application which was initially designed for women employees of the company but has since grown in popularity, offers the following features:

  • Easy to use- accurate location of the victim acquired through multiple sources, works without GPRS/Internet, gives real time location updates and videos.
  • Integrated with police control room-integration based on requirements shared by police from various cities including Delhi, Noida.

Impact

Launched at the start of 2015, the application has since received over 8000 SOS cases from Delhi and NCR.

Addresses the issue of environment conservation by engaging people in making conservation more logical and participatory with the help of objective science.

Innovation

There are 4 apps developed under this project in total – Bird Find, Butterflies & Bees, Tree Watch, Pollinators. These apps displays information such as High Resolution Image, Common and Scientific n1ames, Key data like IUCN status, Endemic, Rarity, Size, Typical Habitat, Localities and provide special feature like – Reporting your own sighting of the birds etc. This helps to raise awareness and action for the conservation of natural heritage –birds, bees-butterflies, trees and pollinators.

Impact

This project has impacted 2500 schools, in over 30 districts covering about 500000 students and teachers.

Innovation

Through SMS Reporting – launched in 2011, the one can receive updates instantly from the field. This service helps connect field personnel – working in remote areas without good internet coverage – to send in SMS notes, which are attached to the main project report. Through the Android App they can be reports created that can include photos, audio, text, GPS, etc from the field. In addition, the PWX MetriX feature on the app provides specific field data: such as height of water, number of users, that can be entered from the field.

Impact

It has been used in 100+ village projects to impact 10,000 people and the organisation plans to target Bangalore City for sewerage treatment plant.

Providing adequate information on Agriculture & Livestock to farmers with limited information

Innovation

The mobile vani platform functions on the basis of Interactive Voice response System (IVR), and when the user dials a number disseminated in the public domain, the call gets cut automatically and he/she receives a call which is retrieved back from the Mobile Vani server, enabling the user to shuffle through programmes uploaded on the platform. The user also has a flexibility of giving his personal comments on the programmes running, which are then scrutinized by the admin section of the Mobile Vani platform and is then published keeping in mind its value, quality, importance and its nature of content.

Impact

Currently, this project has impacted over 1000 farmers and linked several households.

Tackling gender inequality in India’s education system & increasing enrolment for girls

Innovation

The organization has developed a mobile application that will support delivery of educational content & E-Learning through mobile technology. In phase 1 currently, the Application registers the location and time via GPS which is validated by the time from server through geo-tagging of program villages and schools and thereby tracking the movement of the field personnel. This enables real time monitoring of employees and matches their work plan and expense claims for reimbursement respectively.

Impact

Currently there are - 2.8 million+ total beneficiaries of program & 390,000+ total students with improved learning outcomes. Educate Girls (present in 7 educationally backward districts) plans to expand to 9 new educationally backward districts between 2016-18 reaching out to 4 million children by developing phase 2 & 3 of the mobile application.

Addressing the learning deficit in primary children from Grade 1 to Grade 3 and increase the educational development in children

Innovation

The “Play ‘n’ Learn” project looks at whether mobile enabled game-based learning could be an innovative mechanism to address the learning deficit in primary grade children. The project developed android games focused on literacy, numeracy and physical wellbeing, and deployed them among children of ages 6- 8 using tablets and smartphones in urban and rural schools and slum communities. A set of 25 games were mapped to the primary grade school curriculum Class 1, 2 and 3 to improve vocabulary, comprehension and other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) concepts.

Impact

The project was rolled out in schools in Delhi, as well as in Vaishali and Patna districts of Bihar covering more than 4500 children in 57 schools, among 40 children in an under resourced community in Delhi, and over 500 children in Kolkata. They want to roll this out further to over 50,000 children.

Vidya Help line bridges this gap by using mobile phones to provide excellent, accurate and timely guidance and information to assist students in pursuing their education and career building. Vidya Help line provides a Toll free tele- counseling service to assist student callers in queries related to career guidance, admissions counseling, etc. They also have a Mobi counsel targeting a general community for career exposure through the mobile application. They provide career Information on Mobile using texts, voice messaging and WhatsApp.

Impact

Currently the project is running successfully with its operations in 6 centers across 4 states and more than 75,000 students have been benefitted through the helpline. Nirmaan wants to extend the outreach to all the 10,000 Government schools in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in the near future.

Eliminating human interface and reaching out to large no of people with information on Agricultural commodity prices in vernacular languages

Innovation

Commodity price information fetched from the website by a WebCrawler and stored in MySQL database. After recognition of query district and commodity names, the latest price information is searched within the database and played back to farmers concatenating the pre-recorded numerals (like dates, prices etc.) with speech prompts.

Impact

More than 18,000 farmers have already used this system successfully of seven Indian states namely Assam, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The allocation for each shop is done every month through e-PDS system Based on number of cards. This allocation can be viewed by fair price shop (FPS) dealers and beneficiaries thorough the App – increased transparency and reduction in time for dealer picking up of stock. The stock dispatched from MLS point when reaches a shop the beneficiary gets updated stock register in app. There is automation using Point of Sale (POS) devices and issuing PDS commodities only after mechanical authentication by the beneficiary Mobile held device, which is linked to weighing machine and printing slip for sale.

Impact

About 29000 Fair Price shops with about 3.8 crore beneficiaries and about 2100 downloads of the App.

Targeting empowerment of low income communities in Health, Child protection and livelihood with a focus on informed sexual choices

Innovation

This project involves working with m-health technology among adolescents between 13-19 years of age, to enhance the knowledge of especially adolescents on sexual and reproductive health, sexuality, the body rights and gender issues.(extended to HIV/AIDS). Micro SD-cards have been launched, through which the same information can be accessed on the mobile phones as educative chips.

Impact

Till date 30 teen groups in 23 villages in Palajori block of Deoghar district, Jharkhand with approximately 360 adolescents have been impacted with this solution.

Community health workers use tablets for the recording and real time transfer of screening data. Real time advice from ophthalmologists all around the region of study, for paying prompt attention to the patients diagnosed with Diabetic Retinotherapy (DR). This method reduces the cost of transporting all cases to the base hospital and saves the time which can be used in other productive work.

Impact

The organisation has screened 1,70,000 Households and 8,71,553 underprivileged people & provided treatment where necessary. They have covered 23 urban slum areas in Mumbai.

Reducing maternal, neonatal and child mortality and morbidity in underprivileged urban and rural communities

Innovation

mMitra is a free mobile voice call service that provides culturally appropriate comprehensive information on preventive care and simple interventions to reduce maternal and infant mortality and morbidity in urban India. The voice calls are in the local dialect, specific to the woman’s gestational age or the age of the infant and are sent weekly/twice a week directly to the enrolled women in their chosen timeslot. To ensure that the women receive all the messages, a missed call system has been included where a woman can call if she has not been able to hear a call despite three attempts by the system.

Impact

Currently impacted 1,37,000 subscribers across the Mumbai Metropolitan area and 7500 subscribers in LTMGH (Sion) hospital (Mumbai). They plan to extend the service to 5 million women over the next 10 years.

Innovation

The #SoSec app is one of its kinds in the social welfare schemes initiatives to take up the task of compiling and presenting all information about these schemes in a user-friendly manner. It provides clear information on the benefits, eligibility and time frames of the different schemes. Additionally it guides women and girls through the application process by informing them which documents they need in order to apply for the respective schemes
The app will tie up to larger initiatives of the national government to digitize governmental communication systems to increase access to information of marginalized groups such women and over time, help uplift the relatively low social status of women and girls in India.

Impact

As of now, it has benefitted women and girls from local communities in Delhi NCR. They plan to expand it to outside of Delhi shortly.

To address problems of implementation faced by national development programs targeted at the girl child

Innovation

Adolescents, aged 10-19 years, comprise about 30 percent of India’s population, but are not making a healthy transition to a productive adulthood. The digital solution GPower is aimed at driving a comprehensive development and empowerment program to help improve and potentially transform the lives of the adolescent girls at risk. Accenture as a pro bono technology partner, conceptualized, designed and built the entire digital solution as part of its broader Tech4Good initiative and as digital solution that can impact people’s lives positively at scale.

It is a life-saving tool incubating and developing an innovative IT-Enabled system ITEs,which identifies and tracks the vulnerabilities of adolescent girls ahead of time through pre-set indicators, data management and analysis, plans to mitigate through community-based actions - assessing impact especially on the issues of school drop-out, early marriage, child labour and trafficking.A community facilitator is able to quickly and accurately record status indicators of a girl’s education, protection, health and nutrition in a mobile/ tablet. The solution keeps the facilitator informed of follow up dates and interventions, with alerts when timely action should be taken to mitigate any risks to a girl’s status.

The solution also creates links across the government agencies that provide support for adolescent girls, giving the facilitator a ready view into the services across the four pillars that should be leveraged for each individual to reduce her vulnerability index.

GPower is currently works with over 6000 families in about 20 villages of West Bengal.

This project aims to strengthen competency Development program and Advisory Services using Mobile Technology Applications for Women who have taken up “Goat Rearing & Development Farm Activities”, as an Income Generation Agricultural activities, at grassroots level, and also through “enhancing sustainable Livelihood of Rural women through mobile based Life Long Learning (LLL)”.

Impact

the project has impacted over 20,000 people so far in the Theni district of Tamil Nadu.
